ACS355 Machinery Drive - 3 phase Input variable speed drive (VSD)
The dive is programmed with parameters, and like all ABB drives, the parameters are organised into logical groups. The software set inside the drive is packed with features that allow the drive to tackle machinery applications. It comes with an 8-step sequence program which allows machine automation to be incorporated inside the drive (16 steps available from ABB). Timer functions can operate at different times of the day and supervision parameters can make decisions based on machine variables.
To enhance the machinery application the drive can be fitted with an interface to all modern field buses, and the I/O can be used to synchronise motors with a pulse train. The drives also have pre-programmed protection functions for the motor and the driven load, and the drive is fitted with a brake chopper as standard to help to stop dynamic loads (external resistor required).
The motor control is scalar or vector (open or closed loop) control, allowing the ACS355 to tackle more precise applications. The drive can operate induction and PM motors, allowing for more complex machinery applications to be undertaken, and the built-in braking chopper allows for higher dynamic operations to be performed. The drive comes with a 2 channel STO (Safe Torque Off) as standard to SIL 3, PLe. The ACS355 can also be fitted with a range of fieldbus, encoder or extended I/O options.
Target applications for this machinery drive are therefore: Conveyors, Material handling machines, Gates, doors, barriers, Compressors, Packaging machines, Bottling lines, Winders etc. An IP66 variant suitable for F&B is also available via ABB. The drive can be used for controlling fans and pumps, but the ACS310 may more suited to these applications.
Features and benefits:
Vector control for improved precision, induction or PM motors possible
Extensive parameter set, including PID control
Dedicated machinery 8-step sequencer (or 16 steps with additional FW – speak to ABB)
STO as standard, SIL 3, PLe, connections are behind the keypad (see images)
Logical parameter set, accessed by a choice of keypads
Control via I/O, or fieldbus interfaces (option)
External 24 V option allows the drive control to be powered up without the need for mains
Real Time Clock (RTC) when assistant keypad fitted, operations can be triggered using the internal timed functions
DC connection, the drive can be connected to a common DC bus – useful in larger machines
Multiple mounting configurations: wall or DIN Rail, back or side, IP20 rated
Unified height and depth across the sizes makes cabinet design easy (cable trays run parallel)
Can be programmed in the box with FlashDrop tool (stock no.621-1329), allowing fast and easy drive set-up and commissioning for volume manufacturing without needing to apply power to the drive
The ABB logo clip can also be removed for OEMs wishing to brand label
Please see the data sheets for dimensions etc
ABB ACS355 drives bring a number of benefits:
Dedicated for machinery applications, to allow easy machine automation
Built in Braking chopper as standard, converting kinetic energy to braking power (external resistor required)
Sequencer and extended parameters can remove the need for external controllers (PLCs) thus reducing machine costs
Timed functions allow the drive to operate differently at different times of the day (requires assistant keypad)
Improves motor speed control compared with vector controller.
Choice of keypads to suite the budget
May be networked with other automation equipment (via I/O and Fieldbus options)
Sophisticated motor protection and control
Sophisticated maintenance triggers
Single phase supply controlling a 3 phase motor
Approvals
CE, C-Tick approvals, UL, cUL, GOST R and RoHS compliant
ABB - ACS Range
