What is a USB Type-C Connector?
A Type C connector is miniature USB connector with a symmetrical oblong shape. This connector is the newest USB connector on the market and is featured on the most of the latest laptops and smartphones. The reversible design of this connector means it can be plugged into a device either way up, it is impossible to plug it in upside down! USB C connectors can also be used to charge devices.
What is USB Version 3.1?
USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. The USB version relates to the technology that allows the data to be transferred along a cable from one device to another. USB 3.1 is the most recent version of USB for connecting computers and electronic devices and allows for a transfer speed of up to 10Gbps. To be able to achieve this fast USB 3.1 data transfer speed, your host connection, cable and device must all support USB 3.1. USB 3.1 is also referred to as USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps). USB 3.1 is backwards-compatible with older versions of USB.
Features and Benefits
Easy connection of latest USB type C devices to a USB A port in a host device
Compact design
Reversible type C plug can be used either way up without the need to check for orientation
Super fast data transfer and charging, higher than previous USB types

How does a USB Cable Work?
A USB cable allows digital data to be transferred from a peripheral device to a host PC and for supplying power to devices that need it, for instance, charging a mobile phone. The cable consists of four wires that are used separately for transferring power and data. The Type C plug is inserted into your mobile device and the Type A plug is inserted into the female USB receptacle on the host PC (or charger). Once connected the data or power is transferred automatically without the need for any additional interfaces or software. This is referred to as Plug and Play.
