Product details

Adafruit DPI TFT Kippah for Raspberry Pi

This Adafruit DPI Kippah has a TFT panel which is connected to a Raspberry Pi without the use of on HDMI decoder. With a little software configuration, what normally would go out the HDMI port, now will come up on a nice little flat screen.

What is it compatible with?

Raspberry Pi B+, A+, Pi 2, Pi 3 or Zero

A little bit about the screen

This Kippah has not got a touch screen, however, you will get a sleek ultra-fast 18-bit colour display with optional touch support. When tested the results showed that this can be used with 5’’and 7’’ displays at 800x480. Kippah screen is what is called ’native’. What does that mean? It means that it gets all the graphics acceleration capabilities as well as immediate refresh which you would normally get from an HDMI display.

What is the advantage of Kippah?

This add on board uses almost every pin available on the Raspberry Pi. Pins are hardcoded, so they cannot be moved or rearranged. UART RX/TX pins (no console cable) and standard user I2Cpins are not included. Same as the EEPROM I2C pins, or hardware SPI pins.
Pins used:
• GPIO 2 through 21 inclusive
• #22, #23, #24, #25, #26 and #27
• USB port
Display replaces the HDMI/NTSC output, therefore DPI HAT and HDMI won’t be working simultaneously and you won’t be able to switch between the two.

Specifications:

This single-display module is suitable for use in Multimedia Player products. The LCD adopts one backlight with High brightness 12-lamps white LED.

LCD:
• Amorphous-TFT 5.0 inch display, transmissive, normally white type
• 800(RGB) x 480 dots Matrix
• Narrow-contact ledge technique
• LCD Driver IC: HX8264D x1 & HX8664B x1
• RGB interface
• Video signal interface: Parallel RGB or serial

Not included: TFT display, USB micro-B cable, FPC Extension cable, bent wire stand and Raspberry Pi.
